Zombies in Magic are the persistent dead: shambling legions, lab-grown horrors, and ancestral guardians that refuse to stay buried. Across the game's worlds they appear as everything from mindless drones to cunning necromancers' servants, bound to black mana and the graveyard. Their flavor is less about speed than inevitability — a slow, multiplying tide that keeps rising no matter how many are cut down.
Typal Zombie decks lean into that identity. They tend to be creature-heavy and attrition-minded: filling the graveyard, returning creatures from it, and sacrificing bodies for value while lords and other payoffs reward having many Zombies on the battlefield. The strategy is often mono-black or black-heavy, grinding opponents down through recursive threats and drain effects rather than explosive combo turns. Because so many Zombies trade well or come back, the deck can play a long game, rebuilding after sweepers and overwhelming blockers with sheer numbers.
