A plane is a card type used in the Planechase casual format. It is never cast and never goes into a player's regular deck; instead, each participant brings a planar deck, and the top card of each planar deck is turned face up into the command zone at the start of the game. While a plane is face up, its static ability applies to every player, bending the rules of the game around it.
Planes are not permanents. They can't be destroyed, sacrificed, or attacked, and ordinary removal doesn't touch them. Rolling the planeswalker symbol on the planar die causes a planeswalk: the current plane is put on the bottom of its owner's planar deck and the next one is revealed in its place. Their role is to define the shared environment of a multiplayer game rather than to be played from hand.
