Gorgons are Magic's serpent-haired petrifiers, creatures whose gaze turns flesh to stone. They appear across the Multiverse as monsters, guardians, and unlikely commanders, usually in black and green. Their flavor mixes venom, immortality, and cruel beauty, and many gorgons pair a deadly stare with deathtouch, sacrifice, or graveyard recursion. Some are assassins; others are schemers who weaponize the battlefield rather than simply attack.
Typal Gorgon decks tend to play as attrition or midrange builds: black-green shells that trade creatures profitably, use deathtouch to discourage blocks, and grind opponents out with removal, recursion, and card advantage. Because gorgons often punish combat or reward a slow game, the deck can lean controlling, with a few large finishers. Vraska cards in the catalog show the type's flexible identity—sometimes a silencer, sometimes a soul of stone—but the core plan remains the same: make every stare count.
