Gift is a keyword ability that lets you make a deal as you cast a spell. When you cast a spell with Gift, you may choose an opponent and promise them a gift. If you do, that opponent gets the gift described on the card—often drawing a card, taking an extra turn, or creating a creature token. The timing depends on the spell: for a permanent, the gift happens when it enters the battlefield; for an instant or sorcery, it happens before the spell's other effects (or after, for an extra turn).
Why does this matter? Because promising a gift usually unlocks a stronger effect for you. You're trading a small advantage to an opponent for a bigger one for yourself. It's a strategic choice: sometimes giving an opponent a card is worth it to save your creatures or win the game. Gift spells reward players who can judge when a little generosity pays off.
