Battle is a permanent card type you cast during a main phase by paying its mana cost. Each Battle enters with a defense counter, and if it's a Siege, an opponent is chosen as its protector. Any player other than the protector can attack it, and combat damage removes defense counters. When the last defense counter is removed, the Battle is exiled; if it was a Siege, its controller may cast its back face.
In a deck, Battles play as a two-stage payoff: the front face usually provides an immediate effect, while the reward comes from defeating the Battle in combat. They reward aggressive, attack-oriented strategies and give opponents a persistent, interactable goal.
